Mumbai: The National Human Right Commission (NHRC) directed Maharashtra government to pay Rs 5 lakh compensation to each of the families of two migrants killed during MNS agitation against north Indians.
NHRC has indicted Maharashtra government over not taking serious initiative to protect people from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the state. The NHRC has recommended Rs 10 lakh to the victims who caught in the fray with MNS.
The Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil has affirmed that the government has already registered 73 cases against MNS workers, and assured that if Raj Thackeray will take the law in his hand, will have to face severe consequences.
Over the recommendations made by the NHRC, he said that the government is serious to put the law and order situation on high in the state as it was never silent on the lawbreakers, and they will look into the matter.
