Maharashtra ATS chief removed

Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Ministry today axed chief of Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) KP Raghuvanshi, sources said.

According to the sources, Rakesh Maria will be promoted as new ATS chief. Raghuvanshi is likely to be made ADGP Law & Order.

Raguvanshi was facing heat from the Central government and Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for giving a detailed briefing to the media about the arrest of LeT militants Riyaz Shaikh and Abdul Latif.

Duo was arrested by the ATS for allegedly plotting bomb attacks on the ONGC office at Bandra, Mangaldas market and Thakkar Mall.

In his address to media, Raghuvanshi had said that both the militants were in touch with their Pakistan-based handlers with a code name of uncle.

After his statement, both Centre and Chavan slammed Raghuvanshi and said that he should have refrained from giving detailed information before media.
