No Jagan now; Rosaiah stays

Cong Will Let Him Warm The Chair Till Polls In 3 States Get Over

Hyderabad: There does not seem to be any chance of Jaganmohan Reddy being anointed chief minister anytime in the near future. The high command has made it clear that there will be status quo in the leadership till at least the assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh. This means that K Rosaiah will continue for the time being. The assembly elections are on October 13.
Highly placed sources say that the high command is miffed at the way the Jagan brigade has been trying to drum up support for him and force things on the party bosses. The continual comparison to the situation after the death of Indira Gandhi and the circumstances that led to the accession of Rajiv Gandhi has also not gone well with 10, Janpath, highly placed sources said.
On Monday, Rajya Sabha MP and close YSR aide K V P Ramachandra Rao — who is seen as the power behind the Jagan campaign — was summoned to New Delhi. Sources said that KVP, who is scheduled to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday, will be told to convince Jagan to propose Rosaiah’s name as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader. “The CLP meeting will not be convened until Jagan is convinced to back off from the leadership bid,” an AICC member told TOI in New Delhi.
On Monday, several state party leaders either met Sonia in Delhi or spoke to her from Hyderabad. Most of them are from the anti-Jagan camp. Those who met her included Rajya Sabha MPs V Hanumantha Rao and K Keshava Rao, Lok Sabha MP U Arun Kumar, while PCC president D Srinivas spoke to her over the phone. The MPs and MLAs who want to meet the high command have been told to do so individually and not in groups. This is seen as a way to cut the Jagan bhajan groups to size.
In the meantime, the Congress president is likely to depute finance minister Pranab Mukherjee to study the AP situation and report to the party. The party is already in receipt of inputs from AICC AP in-charge general secre
tary M Veerappa Moily, Prithviraj Chavan along with another general secretary Digvijay Singh. According to AICC sources, the high command has already started consultations with state leaders, MPs, MLAs and MLCs and the talks are revolving around persuading Jagan and the Congress legislators to agree for continuation of K Rosaiah as chief minister.
Meanwhile, there was not much activity in Hyderabad on Monday by the chastened supporters of Jagan barring one or two demonstrations. The ministers and MLAs confined themselves to either the CLP office or their respective offices in the secretariat. Chief minister Rosaiah also began his official duty with things appearing to fall in line.

CBI probe into YSR helicopter crash
The Centre has agreed to the state government’s request for a CBI inquiry into the chopper crash in which former CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and four others were killed.
“Chief minister K Rosaiah had made the request to Union home minister P Chidambaram who agreed to the probe,” home minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy said. The state also ordered a probe by a twomember experts’ committee comprising retired IPS officer M R Reddy and former DG of civil aviation H S Khola. This panel has two months’ time to submit its report. M R Reddy is an expert on VIP security and was in-charge of the security of Rajiv Gandhi and belongs to Kadapa.
The ongoing CB-CID probe into the crash will also continue, the home minister said. In all, four probes has been ordered — by the CBI, CB-CID, DGCA and experts’ committee. “So many doubts have been raised about the crash cause. As a result, we feel the CBI is the best authority to investigate it,” said agriculture minister N Raghuveera Reddy. He denied there were lapses in the funeral arrangements at Idupulapaya and said the number of people who turned up was much more than what was anticipated. TNN
YSR’s cellphone recovered
Hyderabad: The special team of Crime Investigation Department (CID) has recovered three cellphones from the helicopter crash site in Nallamala forest.
According to sources, they belonged to former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, principal secretary in the CMO P Subrahmanyam and chief security officer ASC Wesley. The cellphones of the two pilots S K Bhatia and M S Reddy were shattered to pieces, sources said.
Reading of data from these cell phones might reveal whether the chief minister and others tried to contact anyone before the crash, CID officials said. However, so far, nobody has come forward to state that the occupants of the helicopter contact
ed them. CID officials said all the three cellphones looked intact from the outside.
However, they are not working and CID officials are not sure whether it is possible to retrieve data from the phone memory and SIM card as they might have suffered internal damage due to the crash. CID officials are sending the cellphones to APFSL for examination. Helicopter debris, including important parts like the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) were collected by the sleuths from the crash site and the CVR was handed over to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) personnel in New Delhi for decoding. Apart from the examination of the cellphones, the CID is trying to verify reports on the physical and mental condition of the two pilots.
