HYDERABAD: The seventh edition of the popular and annual 10K Run will be held on November 22 on the Necklace Road starting from 6.30 a.m. The half-marathon race too be will be held simultaneously and will begin at 5. 30 a.m. Both events are open to all categories with assurance of support services all along the route.
Social cause
“This is not a commercial run as some of them are in other parts of the country. We have a social cause like creating health consciousness, completing the process of cleaning up of Hussainsagar Lake and most importantly, enhancing the image of Hyderabadis,” said noted producer and Chairman of 10K Foundation Suresh Babu.
At a press conference here on Wednesday which he addressed flanked by badminton champ P. Gopichand, Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly N. Manohar, film stars Anushka, Allu Arjun and others, Mr. Suresh Babu said, “We are all set to go global this year as Telugus in the United States have come forward to host these runs in 10 cities there.” It is “a very, very special event” symbolising the typical Hyderabadi spirit transgressing all social and political barriers, he said and expects the number of participants to be much more than the 20,000 who took part in the last edition.
The event which also attracts handsome Rs. 15 lakh prize money is also likely to feature some runners from Ethiopia.
Mr. Manohar reminded that the quality of the run over the years was proof of the commitment of the entire team which works selflessly. “In fact, we invite NGOs to raise their own funds by ‘selling’ their own dream pet projects during the event,” he appealed.
“For us, participation in large numbers is important to convey a message of the famous resilience of Hyderabadis. Let us not forget that the last edition was organised just after the Mumbai blasts and the way the city responded was largely appreciated as funds were also donated to the victims then from Mission Foundation,” he recalled.
Actors Anushka and Arjun as brand ambassadors for the event strived to ensure the success of the event to put the city on the global map.
