Koran Sayings Begin Appearing on Baby’s Body, Russians Puzzled

Miracle or hoax? Russians puzzled as phrases from the Koran start appearing ‘spontaneously’ on baby’s skin

A baby is sparking a wave of speculation in Russia after phrases from the Koran allegedly began appearing on his skin.

Sayings from the Muslim holy book are said to appear on nine-month-old Ali Yakubov’s back, arms, legs and stomach – before apparently fading away and being replaced with new sayings.

Russian medics claimed they are puzzled over the cause of the marks on a baby’s skin, which started when the word Allah apparently appeared on his chin within weeks of his birth.

Human Koran: Sacred sayings from the Muslim holy book apparently appear spontaneously on nine-month-old Ali Yakubov’s body

Medics deny that the marks are from someone writing on the child’s skin.

His mother, Madina, said that she and her husband were not religious until the writings started appearing on his skin.

Initially they did not show anyone the unexplained writings, she said, until revealing them to their doctor and the imam in their village of Red October which is in a strongly Muslim region.

Now the boy has become a focus of Muslim homage in his troubled home province of Dagestan, close to war-ravaged Chechnya in the south of Russia.

Local MP Akhmedpasha Amiralaev said: ‘This boy is a pure sign of God. Allah sent him to Dagestan in order to stop revolts and tension in our republic.’

The boy’s mother claimed: ‘Normally those signs appear twice a week – on Mondays and on the nights between Thursdays and Fridays.

 baby-koran2

‘Ali always feels bad when it is happening. He cries and his temperature goes up. It’s impossible to hold him when it’s happening, his body is actively moving, so we put him into his cradle. It’s so hard to watch him suffering.’

The phrases regularly replace each other on the baby’s skin, she said.

Local imam Abdulla has told locals that the Koran forecasts that before the end of the world, there may be people with its sayings on their bodies.

He said that one sign read: ‘Don’t hide these signs from the people.’

The story has attracted considerable attention from the Russian media and online.

‘New darshan system results satisfactory’

TTD offers incentives for devotees opting for the Rs.300 ticket

TIRUMALA: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer I.Y.R. Krishna Rao on Friday expressed satisfaction over the implementation of Seeghra Darshan system and said the purpose behind its introduction was fulfilled.

Addressing a press conference at the TTDs Annamayya Bhavan here, Mr. Rao said the temple management was leaving no stone unturned in making the new system ‘foolproof’. Additional staff would be deployed to properly guide the devotees desirous of having darshan of the Lord on the Rs. 300 darshan ticket besides periodically regulating the queue lines.

Food, beverages

Tea and coffee would be supplied to all the devotees in case the waiting time for the darshan stretches beyond a couple of hours. If the waiting hours still stretch further like on festive days and weekends the waiting pilgrims would be provided with food items free of cost.

With a wish to maintaining an uninterrupted darshan queue line in the better interests of the Rs.300 ticket holders minor modifications have been made for the entry of devotees with the ‘kalyanotsavam’, ‘sahasra deepalankara seva’ and likewise ticket holders who hereafter shall be allowed into the queue complex through a special gate on the ‘supatham’.

Mr. Rao categorically stated that the concept does not imply that it was instant darshan wherein the devotees would not be made to wait.

Coming down heavily on a section of the electronic media for repeatedly airing the views of a ‘selected panel’ of people who were opposed to the new system (even before it was introduced) for reasons best known to them, he said the management was always ready for any kind of debate on the issue provided it was in the interest of the pilgrims and the management.

‘Rahmania’ hits the city

The buzz is palpable. Oscar winner, musical genius and Isai puyal (musical storm), Allah Rakha Rahman’s performance at the GMR arena at the Rahul Gandhi International Airport Complex is beyond the horizon. Fans are gearing up in excitement and the music will be sweeter because the net proceeds of the show will be donated to the Chief Minister’s relief fund in aid of the victims of the recent floods.

Uttam Reddy, managing partner of ‘Rayalaseema Ruchlu’ says he bought the tickets worth 12,500 each reminding us that Rahman himself is not charging any remuneration for the show. “We don’t get to see Rahman perform live often. I have been listening to his music for years and I am looking forward to this show. About ten of us are going to this show. Besides the fun, it gives me satisfaction that the money I spend on the show will go to the flood victims. Rahman, the weekend in the company of friends… it will be one of the most memorable events,” Reddy enthuses.

C. Dinakar, a businessman hopes that since the concert is happening in the city, there will be more Telugu numbers, “My companions for the show will be a combination of friends and family. When I attended the Rahman show two years ago in the US, he performed a lot of Hindi and Tamil numbers. I hope there will be more Telugu numbers this time. I like all his compositions right from Roja.”

Other fans in the throes of ‘Rahmania’ can’t wait to hear their favourite songs performed live. V.V. Yugandar, a filmmaker, who is flying all the way from Mumbai for Rahman, says, “My all-time favourite Rahman composition is from Donga Donga and Vandemataram and I hope he performs them. He is one of the greatest artistes of our times. I’ve never attended any of his shows, this is going to be my first. My friends and I are really excited to see the legendary music composer live in concert.”

No job placements for 3rd-yr JNTU students

Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) has asked all its affiliated engineering colleges not to conduct campus placements for students of third year engineering, but only for final year students.
The JNTU said that when companies select meritorious third year students for placements, the students give up attending classes and pay no attention to their studies in the final year as they already have jobs to step into. Many such third year students have even failed to pass the final year examination.
“The final year in engineering is very crucial. Students have to concentrate on their electives. We have seen instances where brilliant students failed to graduate — they were overconfident after being selected for a job. So, we have asked the colleges to avoid campus placements for third year students. Campus selections hereafter are only for final year students,” said Dr K. Lal Kishore, rector, JNTU.
JNTU officials have discussed the matter with the National Association of Software and Services Companies which agrees with the university’s decision.
“If the third year student who got selected in campus placement fails to perform in the final year, NASSCOM might not want to recruit the student,” said Dr Kishore.

CT scans better than X-rays for in H1N1 patients

Washington: A new study has found that computed tomography (CT) scans can be more useful than standard radiography (X-rays) in detecting the severity of disease in patients with the H1N1 virus.
Reports of seven patients with the H1N1 virus who underwent both tests were assessed to reach the conclusion that CT scans were more effective. Amr M. Ajlan, M.D., lead author of the study, said: “All patients with CT abnormalities showed abnormal findings on the corresponding chest X-rays.
“However, the extent of involvement was more diffuse and the distribution of disease was better characterized on CT.” He added: “The strength of our study is that all CT scans performed showed a similar distribution of abnormalities, which might help physicians prospectively diagnose H1N1 using medical imaging.
“Most cases of H1N1 are mild and self-limited; however, high-risk patients are more likely to have severe complications. Our study suggests that CT is superior to standard chest X-rays and should be the imaging modality of choice in high-risk patients.”
The study will be published in the December issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology but has already been published online.

Flyover to come up across Benz Circle

It is planned on Bandar Road between NTR Circle at Patamata and Hotel D.V. Manor

JNNURM and VMC funds will be utilised, says Pradyumna

The Rs. 35-crore project is aimed at easing

traffic congestion

VIJAYAWADA: The VMC has initiated efforts to construct a flyover across Benz Circle, a long-pending proposal to ease traffic congestion at the junction.

It announced on Friday its plan to construct the flyover on Bandar Road between NTR Circle at Patamata and Hotel D.V. Manor. The proposed flyover would be of a width of 500 metres to 800 metres and the expected outlay would be about Rs. 35 crores to Rs. 40 crores. Announcing this at a press conference, Municipal Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna said that funds available under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) as well as own funds of the VMC would be utilised for the project.

Vehicular flow

“The National Highways Authority of India may not take up this project, as they will not get any returns in the form of toll fee. Since the problem of vehicular traffic is continuously increasing, we have decided to take up the project,” he said.

Mr. Pradyumna said that a report of the Passenger Car Unit (PCU) study taken up at the junction indicated that the vehicular flow at Benz Circle during peak hours was 15,000 cars per hour. There was every possibility of an increase in the number in the near future, as the vehicle population in the city was exponentially increasing. He said that the Bangalore-based Consulting Engineering Services (India) Limited was asked to prepare a detailed project report.

“We will get the report in one month from now, and after that we will seek permission from the State government. We plan to complete the project within one year from the date of commencement of the construction,” he explained.

Mr. Pradyumna said in reply to a question that it would take some more time to complete the detailed project report of the underground drainage project in One-Town. He said that the Sriram Energy plant at Ajit Singh Nagar would be shut down soon, while bio-methanisation plant would be revamped.

Three preachers from Hyderabad drown at Manginapudi beach

MACHILIPATNAM: Three preachers who came from Hyderabad for a bath in the sea at Manginapudi beach met a watery grave in the afternoon.

The victims were identified as Devender, 33, of Chatrinaka, A. Sriramulu, 28, and A. Babu, 23, both of Chandrayanagutta, in Hyderabad. The last two were said to be relatives. The police said that the three persons were part of a team of 10 preachers of a group called Swadhyaya Pariwar Bhagavad Gita Prachar Samithi. In all, six persons went for a bath around 3.30 p.m., but three of them could escape the tragedy.

The police recalled that the same spot claimed life of two persons last year but there had been no effort on the part of the authorities to put up any signboard or take any precaution to stop visitors from reaching the place.

SSC examination: grading system from March 2010

Grading system in SSC public examination based on CBSE pattern

Students categorised into 8 grades based on their performance evaluation

HYDERABAD: The government issued orders on Friday introducing grading system in SSC public examination from March 2010 based on CBSE pattern.

This decision was based on a proposal submitted by the Director, Government Examinations on recommendations of a core committee of Secondary Education.

The CBSE pattern of grading system places students in the top 12.5 per cent performers who appeared for the examination in A1 grade, the next 12.5 per cent students will be given A2 grade and so on (B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2) and the students who are disqualified will be given E grade. Overall, the students will be categorised into eight grades based on their performance evaluation in the examination.

Officials claimed that the grading system would eliminate differentiation among students whose performance was more or less similar unlike in the marks system and reduce the resultant stress on students. As subjectivity in the evaluation of answer sheets could not be avoided, giving ranks on the basis of marks might not be fair to the student, they said.

In the system existing now, students who scored 95 per cent and those who scored 65 per cent were both placed in first class and those who scored 50 to 59 per cent in the second class and 35 to 49 per cent in the third class. The grading system would judge the students in a more realistic way without subjecting them to undue stress,

However students would be issued marks memo required for admission to Intermediate and other courses.

Description: A DJ who till recently was described by the Indian media as India’s number one female DJ. Well not any more. They now simply refer to her as India’s best. In a big country where the house music scene was completely dominated by male artists, the soft-spoken DJ Pearl has always lets her vinyl speak for itself. Pearl’s love affair with the dance floor began almost a decade ago from the time she was an indefatigable clubber, traveling across the globe, forever in search of new sounds and that perfect clubbing experience. She’s partied at the best clubs and been influenced by some of the finest DJs of our time. Having grown up surrounded by music and around vinyl collecting parents who themselves were a part of the Goa music scene back in the 70s; it isn’t hard to see why music had such a major influence on her. Having realized early on that music was her life’s answer, she has since pioneered the cause of electronic dance music across the Indian subcontinent. This commitment to EDM led her to be one of the co-founders of ‘Submerge’ (www.submerge.in), India’s premiere electronic music party which serves as a platform for upcoming DJs in the country and also responsible for bringing down some of the world’s finest DJ talent. From a humble beginning five years ago of a few hundred fanatic clubbers, Submerge now hosts weekly nights across all the major cities in the country and can now boast of a nationwide community of loyal members.

Description: Daira centre for arts and culture presents artworks by Sukanta Das, Sukanta Das’ second solo exhibition at Daira Art Gallery emphasizes his preoccupation with the charming bond fostered by him between earthlings and nature. Situated in lush milieus, the portrayal of humans narrates the idealized world of Sukanta Das. His creative skills succinctly complement his heart full of dreams and emotions. The simple portraits appear striking due to the composition of nature the artist weavers around his characters. The blade of grass, the designed leaves, the birds and petals are wreaths that enhance the substance of beauty aspired by the human heart. The blissful coexistence of nature and humans successfully underlines the story of evolution on Sukanta’s canvas. Besides the beautiful factor the artist creates mythological codes in his present series.

Indian, Chinese PMs meet on bilateral ties

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao met here on Saturday to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern against the backdrop of the war of words between the two neighbours over Arunachal Pradesh.

Dr. Singh, who arrived here on Friday, and Mr. Wen held crucial bilateral talks on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in this Thai beach resort.

In his opening remarks during the meeting, Mr. Wen said “We want to have healthy and steady relationship with India.”

Dr. Singh congratulated Mr. Wen on 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.

Their meeting came as the two countries struck conciliatory notes after provocative statements from China on Arunachal Pradesh evoked a sharp reaction from India.

China regards Arunachal Pradesh a disputed territory and objected to Prime Minister Singh’s visit there for assembly polls, triggering sharp reaction from India which asserted that the state is an integral part of the country.

“Bilateral relationship will be in focus,” Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said last night ahead of the meeting between Dr. Singh and Mr. Wen.

Ms. Rao said the relationship between the two countries is a “complex one” though it has “developed in many areas” in recent years.

More than 100 bank failures this year in US

Two more banks were taken over late Friday by US regulators, bringing the number of bank failures to 101 so far this year.

The latest financial institutions to fall amid the longest recession since the 1930s were regional banks in Florida and Georgia.

After the highly publicised failure of Wall Street investment banks and the federal bail-outs of others, this year’s failures have mostly involved smaller, local and regional banks.

The 100th failure was Partners Bank in Naples, Florida, with assets of $66 million. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which protects small depositors and steps in when banks are deemed insolvent, immediately announced the takeover of Partners Bank by Florida-based Stonegate Bank.

American United Bank of Lawrenceville, Georgia, with assets of $111 million, will be taken over by Ameris Bank, which is also Georgia-based.

The FDIC often arranges for stronger banks to quickly receive the assets and accounts of failing banks.

Alabama’s Colonial Bank was the largest to go under, so far, in 2009 with assets of $25 billion, which made it the sixth largest bank ever to fail in the US.

2009’s 101 failures are already the highest since 1992.

Jagan Mohan to remain a committed soldier of Congress

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said here on Friday that he would remain a committed soldier of the Congress and abide by AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s instructions whether or not he was given any position of power.

He also declared unequivocally that he would extend his support to Mr. K. Rosaiah or any other Congress leader chosen to occupy the post of Chief Minister. His priority was to fulfil his father’s desire to ensure the Congress party’s victory in 41 out of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh and see that Mr. Rahul Gandhi became Prime Minister in 2014.

A day after his crucial meeting with Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Kadapa MP addressed a press conference at YSR’s residence on Friday noon, flanked by at least nine Ministers and over two dozen party MLAs essentially to clarify ‘different versions’ appearing in the media about his interaction with the Congress president. Referring to the statement of some party MPs on the issue, he said, “It is not gentlemanly to reveal what transpired between the party president and me. I have full faith in her”.

Significantly, although Mr. Jagan explicitly announced his resolve to fall in line, he said he would pursue the government to implement YSR’s election pledge to increase the rice quota for the poor from 20 kg to 30 kg a month and supply free power to farmers for nine hours a day against seven hours now. In this connection, he observed that the ongoing survey to identify eligible families for pensions, house sites and ration cards was only delaying passing on these benefits to the poor.

“We will ensure that all the benefits are received by eligible people, whoever is the Chief Minister,” he said. He declined to give his assessment of the Rosaiah government’s performance saying it was “a controversial question and it is not good to rate somebody”.

Mr. Jagan, at the outset, underscored that in the seven weeks since his father’s death, had never sought any post. “I am just 36 and yet Ministers and MLAs have shown respect to me. It is not important to get the CM’s post as it will come one day with the people’s blessings. In the coming days, we will work harder, go close to the people and get everybody’s appreciation”, he added.

When reminded that several Ministers and MLAs wanted him to be made Chief Minister and some had even refused to work under Mr. Rosaiah, he found nothing wrong with it. His father had left behind an incomplete task and it was the duty of any son to bring the mission to its logical end. “And, if, God-willing, you get an opportunity to complete it, will you not ask for it”, he said.

The Kadapa MP said Ms. Gandhi spoke to him for one hour and was fully aware of the political situation in Andhra Pradesh. “She will take the right decision at the right time. As a disciplined soldier, it is my duty to support her”.
