Mumbai youth makes world record in video gaming

Mumbai, Oct 20 (PTI) Playing video games for long hours is often termed as an addiction, but a city youth has used it to his advantage to make a world record by playing a game non-stop for more than 40 hours on his playstation.

Chirantan Patnaik has successfully broken the current world record made by a US citizen last year for the longest continuous play session on ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ of 28 hours and 1 minute.

An official of Guinness World Records told PTI from London that Patnaik’s endeavour, made in the presence of independent observers and under public scrutiny last month, was recently verified by them.

“The longest continuous play session on Grand Theft Auto IV is 40 hours 20 minutes, by Chirantan Patnaik (India), at the offices of the gaming blog NeuralChaos.com from 4-6 September 2009,” Karolina Thelin, PR executive of Guinness World Records said.

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI)
The Supreme Court today directed the CBI to take possession of the viscera samples of Ashutosh Asthana, prime accused in the multi-crore PF scam, who died mysteriously in Ghaziabad’s Dasna jail.

A special bench headed by Justice D K Jain ordered the CBI to forward the samples to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to ascertain the cause of his death on Saturday.

The bench, also comprising Justices V S Sirpurkar and G S Singhvi, further directed that the judicial magistrate inquiring into the circumstances leading to Asthana’s death shall submit his report to it within eight weeks.

The apex court also asked the UP police to provide adequate protection to all the accused and witnesses in the case in which some judges were allegedly involved.

Will Tirupati become ‘non-liquor zone?’

Balaji, Venkateswara, Srinivasa, Govinda, Tirumala. If you think these are only the famous names of Lord Venkateswara in the Sahasra Nama Parayanam (1,000 names of Lord Balaji), you are wrong. These names adorn liquor shops welcoming the devout to the pilgrim town in every nook and corner.

Though Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) authorities have been urging the state government to declare Tirupati as a ‘non-liquor zone,’ precious little has been done all these years as the temple town is one of the biggest revenue grossers for the excise department. There are not less than 350-400 liquor shops which clearly speaks volumes about the high demand for liquor in this holy town.

Interestingly, temple towns of Varanasi and Tirupati are the highest revenue grossers for the excise department in the entire country. According to officials, the annual revenues of the excise department in Tirupati through the sale of liquor is over Rs 70 crore. “It won’t be a wonder if the revenues cross Rs 100 crore during the peak season,” an official said.

With beautification of Tirupati taken up at Rs 2,800 crore under JNNURM scheme, the Tirupati Municipal Corporation and Tirupati Urban Development Authority have also joined hands with TTD to make Tirupati a non-liquor zone. At a recent task force meeting chaired by TTD executive officer IYR Krishna Rao along with Tuda chief C Bhaskar Reddy and corporation commissioner B Mohan Reddy, it was decided to pursue the matter seriously with the government.

However, the excise authorities are cut up with the TTD move to ban liquor shops in the entire temple city. “We could stop issuing licences to new shops. But it won’t be easy to put a blanket ban since they are the highest revenue grossers to the government exchequer,” an official said.

ISRO competes with NASA?

Bangalore: It’s being said that Indian Space Agency ISRO is competing with NASA.  The recent success of Chandrayaan- 1mission on the moon has ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair in spot light.

ISRO competes with NASA

The discovery of water on the surface of moon has pushed for further investigations into the same and there are a lot of expectations from the Chandrayaan-2 space mission scheduled for 2013.

While the media had written off the Chandrayaan-1 mission, NASA has applauded ISRO’s achievement for the same. This had made Nair more ambitious and hopeful for Chandrayaan-2.

He is all excited about it and says it will take him a good three years to decide and design everything before Chandrayaan-2 embarks upon yet another path-breaking discovery.

According to Nair, the latest space mission has opened up the arena for inter-planetary exploration. He is also hopeful of an international co-operation in space research from NASA for future space missions.

Moon water: ISRO on high

Moon water: ISRO on high

Moon-water-ISRO-on-high-After the discovery of water molecules on the moon, most of the space scientists were of the view that the water molecules could be from an external source like cometary bodies.

However, the European Space Agency’s payload, Sara (Sub-Kev Atom Reflecting Analyser) on Chandrayaan-1 gave authentication for the results.

An ecstatic Annadurai told on Thursday from Bangalore that the discovery by Sara only confirmed the mechanisms the Indian scientists had been talking about.

As released from Chandrayaan-1 on November 14 last year, the water molecules were founded by an indigenous device called the Hyper Spectral Imager and Nasa’s Moon Minerology Mapper on the Moon Impact Probe. The discovery of the water molecules was declared by Nasa and Isro on September 24.

Chandrayaan-1 project director Mylswamy Annadurai confirmed that the water molecules which were found on the moon’s Polar Regions came from the moon’s surface and is a major disclosure achieved by the lunar mission which was launched on October 22, 2008.

Chandrayaan-1 was terminated on August 30 following a communication breakdown.

250000 Education Jobs were Retained

250000 Education Jobs were Retained

education jobsThe Domestic Policy Council report shows that the states were able to recover the most part of the education budget shortages with the help of the stimulus. Thus, 250,000 education jobs were retained.

A week ago the White House representatives commented on the data provided by another report that informed about 30,000 jobs retained or created in the private infrastructure sector thanks to the stimulus.

Although the figure may be seen as quite low, it has some meaning that there are more jobs retained or created in education compared to the private sector.

One of the probable explanations to the fact that there has been not that much jobs created in the private sector is that the stimulus has been mostly tailored for the public sector.

The Magic Of Chandrayaan

The Magic Of Chandrayaan

chandrayaan2b1ii4

Chandrayaan is India’s first sole Moon mission ever. But it is significant not only in terms of India’s first steps on the Moon but also due to its staggering findings.

One of the most important is the one that proved there is water on that planet.

This country’s first solo mission is remarkable and meaningful as it was then that India’s first footprints appeared on the Moon. It also made several breakthrough discoveries.

It was found during the mission that the Moon generates water. It established that its rock like structures contain iron. And it proved that Apollo did exist.

Thus, the nest step in the Moon quest is to define whether it is suitable for habitation. As NASA recently implemented its plan about Moon surface bombing, it is to come up with new findings and detailed data on water probe. Chandrayaan found that water present on the planet has neither molecular nor moisture or gas form.
